Ensure the Preadmission Planning form is completed and returned to the hospital prior to your admission. Follow instructions from your Doctor regarding taking your medication prior to your procedure. Advise our reception staff if you require an interpreter. Contact the hospital or your doctor if your condition changes and you have a cold/flu or an open skin lesion or cut.
Fast from the advised time. Follow any other instructions provided by your doctor’s office. Shower before coming to hospital and do not use deodorant, make-up, perfume or moisturiser. Remove nail polish, jewellery and body piercings (wedding band is acceptable). Arrive at the hospital at your advised admission time and report to hospital Reception.
Telephones are available at each bedside and direct dial facilities are available for your family and friends to call you during your stay. All local calls are free of charge however long distance calls or calls to mobile phones will be charged to your hospital account. Hearing impaired telephones are also available on request.
Free Wi-Fi is available for patients and visitors throughout the hospital. Please ask the nursing staff for a password.
Planning for your care after discharge commences before your admission and continues throughout your stay. Prepare for your return home by considering any extra support arrangements that may need to be made with family and friends, transport arrangements for day of discharge or community services and/or equipment requirements. Discharge is 10:00am and you may be required to vacate your room and wait in the patient lounge area if there is a delay as your room may be booked for another patient. Please compete a Care and Service Feedback form prior to your discharge. Feedback from our patients, carers and family members provides the opportunity for us to review our services and improve on the care and service we provide.
The following is a list of items that you require for your overnight stay:
Relevant cards – Medicare, DVA, Pensioner, Private Health Insurance, Ambulance membership.
Relevant documents if applicable – Advanced Care Plan or Enduring Power of Attorney.
Payment method for out of pocket expenses.
Clinical reports – X-rays, scans, Doctors letters and reports.
Medication list and medication in their original boxes.
Physical aids that you use – hearing aids, walking aids, glasses, denture cup and case.
Comfortable clothing, non-slip shoes, toiletries and CPAP machine if required.
The in-patient Banksia ward has a mix of single and shared rooms. All single rooms have an ensuite and shared rooms have two ensuites. All rooms have private telephones, television and cupboard for storage space. The allocation of single rooms is based on clinical need therefore we cannot guarantee that we can always meet private room accommodation requests.
All menus are compiled by our qualified Chefs in consultation with a Dietitian, assuring your dietary and nutritional needs are met. Alternative menus are available including for children and vegetarian options. Special dietary needs such as gluten free and lactose intolerance are also catered for so please speak with the catering staff regarding your requirements.
A television is located in your room and provides all free to air television and ABC and SBS radio channels. Your television is controlled by your handset and the sound for both radio and television will come through the handset.
